ME AND ME ONLY
MAY 14, 2014
What is an identity? An identity consists of qualities that
make an individual stand out from others. In this project, I had to collect
five items that identifies myself and scan them. These items I chose in my
opinion are rather random but tell a interesting story.
I consider myself as a very outgoing and diverse individual. However I can only scan such few items to tell a rather interesting story. The items I ended up choosing were a brochure of the University of British Columbia, my school ID, a Starbucks Gift Card, The novel The Kite Runner, a Queen album, and lastly a Bollywood movie called Rangeela (Colorful). I then went and scanned them and emphasized some of the items that in my opinion will give more weight of my personality.
One of the major influences of my life is Bollywood movies. I have a been a Bollywood fanatic since the age of three and always been fascinated by the chorography, and acting. From the huge collection in my home, I chose Rangeela because not only it’s a childhood favorite, but the message of pursuing your dreams stills remains fresh in my mind. To makes viewers aware of the importance of this film, I brightened the DVD, increased the font of the letters and emphasized the image of Aamir Khan who is one of my favorite actors. I did the same thing for the Queen album. Queen is my favorite rock band of all time and Freddie Mercury in my book a role model. Both these items unify my vast differences in music and how I am optimistic. Given the fact that I’m about to graduate high school in a week, I decided to use the brochure of the University of British Columbia. I didn’t much emphasize in it because I wanted to keep it a secret from everyone. I also changed the colors and texture of the Starbucks Gift Card by poster zing and oil sketching. This goes for my school ID except that instead of using an oil sketch I pencil sketched and outline the shape and design. Lastly I brighten the back cover of The Kite Runner by enlarging the words and brightening the colors. To empathize my point of how this book changed my life, I also added in some blue lights to lure audiences of how the novel can at certain times be depressing.
Do I think that this project is successful, absolutely. I took five items that identifies me and no one else and scanned them to tell a story. I unfed all items by enlarging and highlighting some of the most personal items contrasting how these interests make up a whole new individual. Hopefully at college, I am able to surround myself with people who share at least one or two interests ranging film, music, art or even coffee.
